PLOT
The Book Thief tells the events of Lisel, during the German nazi period. She is only 9 years old when, with her brother, she leaves her house to go to an adopted family in Monaco. Unfortunatelly, due to the cold and the hunger, her brother die; During his funeral Lisel steal her first book!When the girl arrive at Hubermenn's house, she doesn't have a simple life. There aren't enought money and food at home, and at school, the classmates, insult her due to her poor conditions of education. During this period her best partner is her father, Hans Hubermann, that teaches Lisel how to write and read. And is exactly the reading that will safe her.At the same street lives Rudy, that she calls "the boy with lemon colored hair". He has a big admiration for the runner Jesse Owens, which was very dangerous because Owens was a black man and in that period there was an intense racism. Anyway his biggest dream is kiss Lisel. However her stronger bond she establish with Max, a Jewish man that is hiding at Hubermann's house. She talks, reads and play with him all the time he stay there.For all the book is the death that tells the story, and this express how was the sensations of the population during the nazi, the fear and the suffering dominated in that period.
PERSONAL JUDGMENT
It is one of the most beautiful books that I was read. It puts together the reality with the dreams, and in every page it gives a different emotion. Moreover, The book Thief deal with different topics like war, family, friendship, racism, etc. But the think that I liked in this book was that: Lisel found in the books her safety, and it demonstrate that even in the worst periods we have a solution that will fell us better.
